APPLICATION

IMPORTANT PLEASE READ BEFORE USE

Thank You for choosing SolGold, the first and only genuine genuine gold print and cut media. SolGold is compatible with most solvent-based inks, including EcoSol max, EcoSol, Full (High) Solvent and Lyson Inks, and for use with all popular solvent jet printers.

It is important to note that certain characteristics of SolGold should be taken into account when using this genuine 22 karat gold product on high end sign, vehicle graphic and short run decal projects; of course, it's always recommended that you make a test print and cut first.

OPACITY
The solvent jet printing process, with the exception of spot-color applications, is essentially a four color process. The four color printing process depends on the translucent qualities of its inks, to achieve its endless array of colors and variations. This same translucent ink characteristic means that, when applied over a highly reflective material, such as genuine 22 karat gold SolGold, you will not achieve the "opaque" colors that you may be used to when printing on white media. Black is the obvious exception to this rule. You will however, be able to achieve beautiful, deep "candy-color" effects, previously unachievable with solvent ink jet printing.

THIRD PARTY CUTTING
When using SolGold in separate printer and cutter situations, you should be sure your equipment is capable of, and that you are familiar with manual registration practices. Many cutters have optic sensors that locate printed register marks, and use these register marks to properly align printed media for contour cutting. Because of it's highly reflective qualities, and in most cases, embossed patterns; often, the optic sensors have a difficult time "finding" the register marks. These same stand-alone cutters can usually be taken out of "automatic" mode, and will accommodate manual register mark location. If this becomes necessary for cutting, please refer to your cutter's instruction manual, contact your cutter dealer, or even the manufacturer's tech support department. A list of contact information for most major cutters is located at the end of this instruction sheet.

STORAGE and HANDLING
Like all solvent printable media, SolGold should be stored in its original packaging, including the protective plastic sleeve it was shipped in. Avoid handling the printable surface of SolGold, as the residual oils in your skin can effective both print quality and ink adhesion. Never leave SolGold on the feed rollers of your printer for extended periods of time. Repackage the product promptly after use.

PRINT PROFILES

When assigning a printer profile for SolGold, choose an Intermediate Gloss White media profile. Extensive testing has shown that this generic profile will produce the desired transparent "candy-color" effects on colors, while still allowing for opaque blacks.

When possible, it's always advisable to make a small test print on SolGold, to check for color accuracy, as the actual color of genuine 22 karat gold can effect your color palette. For example, printing a light, pale red can result in an orange hue, as red and gold (yellow) create orange. The same would apply to light blues resulting in a pale aqua tone.

CUTTING

SolGold is a 7.5 mil material (before lamination), therefore, it is recommended that you make a test cut prior to proceeding with cutting an entire job. A 45° blade is recommended.

LAMINATION

It is recommended that you laminate your SolGold print projects for increased exterior durability. Ideally, you should create an "overlap" with your clear laminate, as explained below. The manufacturer of SolGold, the SignGold Corporation, recommends the use of the following laminating materials...
