 A * denotes special instructions for SignGold Thermal-Printable materials.
· Always make a test cut when using Sig nGold, at least until you've become familiar with its properties.
· You MUST have a sharp blade in your plotter. The cutting pressure for SignGold should be the same as for highperformance vinyl. A .5# upper-case Helvetica "A" or "N" serves as a great test for blade sharpness.
* Cutting pressure for SignGold's thermal-printable materials should be roughly equivalent to that of cutting intermediate vinyl.
· Never allow SignGold, especially the Burnished Glass Gold, to be rolled backwards (with release liner to the outside).
· Measuring just 1 Mil in thickness, SignGold actually weeds easier than many high performance vinyls. It is advisable to weedSignGold products immediately after cutting.
* Your "PRINTING SETTINGS" should be set as though you were printing on Gerber 220'series material. Due to SignGold's extreme brilliance, "Double Printing" or a "Primer Coat" may be advisable. Gerber Edge 2 users should print at Edge 1 speed.
· Use a "Medium to high" tack application tape. On letters or graphics taller than 8 inches, a "high" tack tape is recommendedTransparent application tapes will make registration to your outline easier.
· SignGold Genuine Gold products can be applied dry or with a light spray of application fluid. Never use application fluidthat contains ammonia.
· SignGold GenuineSILVER products:
· MUST BE APPLIED DRY.
· ARE NOT WARRANTEED FOR OUTDOOR USE.
· MUST BE EDGE-SEALED, EVEN FOR INDOOR USE.
· When applying SignGold products to sheet acrylic or polycarbonate, remove the protective sheeting from the substrate atleast 24 hours prior to installation to allow for out-gassing.
· Never apply SignGold products over water-based, acrylic or latex finishes. Allow all newly painted surfaces to fully cureprior to installing SignGold products.
· When applying SignGold products over wood or HDU, the surface must be sealed using an oil-based or epoxy coating to restrict moisture exposure from behind the SignGold. We recommend West Systems Epoxy #105 Resin with the appropriate hardener.
· On projects where remove-ability may be an issue in the future, (vehicle lettering, boat names, etc.) it is advisable to installSignGold on top of a layer of high performance cast material (an outline, for example), to make eventual removal easier.
· All SignGold applications should be edge-sealed using 1 Shot 4005 Clear, the Seal-It pen, or equivalent. ALL exteriorapplications must be edge-sealed. On "extreme" applications (frequently washed vehicles, marine, etc.), it is vital to edge-sealthoroughly. Better coverage will be achieved with a traditional, brush application of 1 Shot 4005.
· NEVER attempt to completely cover the SignGold with any clears, sealers or varnishes, as NOTHING will adhere to theTedlar topcoat on SignGold.
* SignGold's thermal printable materials can be top-coated by using the "clearing" option on your thermal printer.
