Frequently Asked Questions
"What is SignGold?" SignGold is 22 karat genuine gold, vaporized and sealed into the "underside" of a clear, one mil weather resistant vinyl (Tedlar TM PVF) with a permanent acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive on a plastic release liner for use with all computer aided sign making systems. "What kind of film is used in making SignGold?" Dupont's Tedlar TM, a one mil cast, high performance polyvinyl fluoride (PVF), is a "cousin" to the commonly used two mil sign making vinyl (PVC) "Why is Tedlar TM used?" Two reasons... First, Tedlar TM is a "vinyl family" film and therefore cuts, weeds, lifts, applies and conforms like any high quality, high performance vinyl. Second, Tedlar TM, unlike common sign making vinyl films, has been used for 25 years in the automotive, aircraft, wall-covering and awning industries as a protective laminate, because of its excellent chemical, stain, UV, saltwater and weather resistance. "Will SignGold Fade?" No. SignGold is produced with genuine 22 karat gold, an inert element, which does not fade. "Can SignGold be used outdoors?" Yes. In fact, it's made for outdoor use, and is warranted for 10-14 years. It's recommended for use on boats, fire trucks, commercial vehicles... anywhere that harsh weather or frequent cleaning are a concern. SignGold DOES NOT recommend using Genuine Silver Films for outdoor applications. "Can SignGold be applied wet or dry?" Yes, with the exception of our genuine silver products, which must be applied dry, but make sure all water is squeegeed out from the SignGold before edge-sealing. "Should SignGold be edge-sealed?" Yes. All exterior applications MUST be edge-sealed. Even on interior applications, we recommend "edge-sealing" any cut lines and exposed edges of SignGold products. SignGold recommends 1-Shot's #4005 clear, or easy-to-use Seal It Pens (Call 843-215-3600). DO NOT SEAL the surface of SignGold. "Is SignGold hard on cutting blades?" No. SignGold is a "vinyl family" film, and cuts like common 2 mil high performance sign making vinyl’s, unlike the many "imitation gold" films made with hard-to-cut polyester (Mylar TM) films, that fade to silver when exposed to sunlight. "Is SignGold graffiti resistant?" Yes. Use soap and water, stain removers, or even paint thinner to clean SignGold, then just wipe the surface dry.
